In addition to the routine medical services the practice provides the following services:
The practice supports patients attending detoxification at Kent Council for Addiction treatment centres or the East Kent Substance Misuse clinics. We do not supply opiate prescriptions to these patients and prescribing remains the reponsibility of unit supervising treatment.
Anticoagulant Monitoring Clinic
This clinic is for patients who have been started on an anticoagulant medication and enables patients to be monitored closely.
Antenatal and Postnatal services are provided by our midwives and the doctors.
Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease Clinics
Full assessments with Spirometry and management advice are provided by our specialist practice nurse - Niki White
Cardiovascular Medicine Clinics
Angina, Atrial fibrillation, Heart Attack, Peripheral vascular disease and Hypertensive patients receive full assessments and management advice from our doctors.
Child Health Surveillance and Immunisations Clinics
These are provided by the practice nurses and doctors.
Health Visiting Team
The Health Visiting Team is made up of qualified nurses who have a specialist training and Community Nursery Nurses to work with and support families with children of pre-school age. Thier role includes home visiting when you have a baby, developmental assessments, health education, maternal mental health, support with sleep. behaviour, toilet training and well baby clinics. The Health Visiting Team is based at St Augustines and can be contacted on 019843 830225 option 1 Monday- Friday 9am - 5pm (excluding Bank Holidays)
All doctors offer a range of services for contraception. Dr Anita Jain and Nurse Lucy Le Vasseur are able to implant Implanon contraceptive tubes.
Full assessments and annual check-ups are performed with monitoring tests and health care advice. This service, which includes the initiation and maintenance of insulin therapy and the new therapies including exenatide and the gliptins is provided by our specialist practice nurse - Alison Coppard as well as Dr Brian Summerfield and Dr McCafferty.
Health Assessment and Promotion Clinics
Patients may book to have well person checks, screening tests and health advice from our practice nurses and nurse practitioner.
Minor Surgery Session
Each doctor has a weekly minor surgery session where minor surgery is undertaken; intrauterine contraceptive devices are fitted and hormone implants are inserted.
New Patient Registration Medicals
Appointments for these are given before a patient registers at the practice and patients will not be registered with the practice until this has been attended. The examinations are undertaken by our Health Care Assistants.
Patients over the age of 75 yrs may book in for a health care check annually.
This service is offered to patients with psychological difficulties for which they prefer a talking therapy as an alternative to medication. The referral to our counsellors will be made by the doctor after assessment.
Patients requiring immunisation for travel to foreign locations may book an appointment with the practice nurses for an assessment of their health care requirements. If you are travelling to third world countries you should make an appoinment several weeks before travelling to ensure that the courses of the various immunisations can be completed safely. There is a fee for giving some immunisations and some vaccines have to be purchased. Malaria prevention is NOT available on ordinary prescriptions. A private prescription will be supplied and you will need to purchase the drugs from the pharmacy. More information is available on the above tab.
